Malaysia is located slightly north of the equator in Southeast Asia and divided into
two regions: Peninsular Malaysia, which is to the south of Thailand and East
Malaysia, (Sabah and Sarawak).
There are thirteen states within these two regions with three federal territories.
Although the size of East Malaysia takes up a larger section of Malaysia's total area,
it is mainly comprised of under developed land and jungles. Eighty percent of
Malaysia's population occupy the main peninsula. The capital of Malaysia is Kuala
Lumpur, often referred to as KL. The population is made up of various different
cultures, offering a multi ethnic mix of Malays, Chinese, Indian and various others.
Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate with high humidity throughout the year, which
boosts it's tourism industry all year round, with monsoon season from October to
February time. Malaysia is also renowned for the beautiful beaches that are on offer
apart from the delicious food found in all parts of the country. Many day and night
markets can be found around Malaysia, offering ready to eat food, clothes and daily
groceries.
Due to the diverse make up of Malaysia's population, the cuisine is infused with many tastes, as Chinese, Thai, Malay and Indian come together in one destination. Therefore, any curry that you try here will be of the highest quality, taste and fusion wise. The recommended dish to try is Nasi Lemak, rice cooked in rich coconut milk with pandan leaves, served with cucumbers, fried ikan bilis, peanuts, boiled eggs, fish and a specially made Nasi Lemak chilli paste.
