Why do you have minimum cover charges? And how is it applied? The minimum cover charge is for covering costs of running the restaurant. Costs of serving dining in guests include many miscellaneous and variable outgoings, such as the staff's pay to serve customers, table linen hire, candle lighting, prawn crackers or peanuts at the table, laundry services, tap water, toiletries and restroom consumables etc. The minimum cover charge policy for dining-in will NOT be applied if guests have ordered a "substantial meal" or a "meal in itself", which can be any of the following: * an order of Special Fried Rice or other large portioned rice or noodle (£6.50), * an order of Sweet & Sour Chicken with Boiled Rice (£9.20) OR * any set dinner from our menus that is valid at the time of ordering, such as a £6.50 set lunch. The minimum cover charge of £10 will be applied if an "unsubstantial" dining order including soft drinks falls below £10, such as: * a portion of Egg Fried Rice & 2 Cokes We would like to emphasise that the minimum cover charge is not intended to require all guests to spend a minimum of £10 per person dining in, but as a measure to make sure the restaurant can cover variable costs of serving customers and to continue in carrying out the business's objective as a food serving restaurant, as opposed to a bar or café where guests just stay for a drink. As mentioned above, we welcome and do not apply the minimum cover charge to guests if individuals order an acceptable order to be classified as a "substantial meal".
